Aptus supports children's bereavement centre

Aptus, the major independent wholesaler of fixings and fasteners, is supporting DIY SOS The Big Build for Children in Need.

The business has donated products from across its extensive range to this year's project which entails the construction of a new children's bereavement centre at Treetops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire.

The centre will act as a dedicated facility to provide therapy and counselling services to children, some as young as seven, who are dealing with the death of a loved one. Often the bereavement is due to an unexpected and traumatic reason such as an accident, suicide or murder.

Treetops Hospice, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2023, supports individuals and their families from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire who are affected by life-changing illnesses and events.

This includes illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and Huntington's Disease.

The services provided by Treetops Hospice, which include nursing care, emotional support, respite care and bereavement support, are all offered free of charge.

Every year, it must raise more than £4.3 million to meet its running costs which equates to around £12,000 per day. 70% of this sum comes from charitable donations and fundraising events.

"Annually, we provide over 900 counselling sessions for children who are having difficulty coping with the death of a loved one.

"The DIY SOS The Big Build for Children in Need will make an immeasurable difference to hundreds of young people and their families from across our local area."

The special episode of DIY SOS The Big Build for Children in Need featuring products from Aptus airs on BBC One at 9pm on November 16^th2023 and will be available on catch up TV afterwards.
