SASIG to focus on helping healthcare professionals to safeguard patient data and medical devices  

 

CYBERATTACKS IN HEALTHCARE have exposed healthcare professionals to greater risk thatpotentially causes delays to treating patients.How the healthcare industry protects sensitive data and medical devices will feature at the Healthcare Cybersecurity Symposiumbeing organised by SASIG, the Security Awareness Special Interest Group, in conjunction with Bupa, on Tuesday 18 January 2022 
 

SASIG is a 6,000-strong community of cybersecurity specialists, anditsHealthcare Cybersecurity Symposium is targeted at SIROS, Clinical Information Officers, Caldicott Guardians and Information Governance leads (and their equivalents) from health and social care organisations.  
 

The symposium is being held virtually and features presentations from Phil Huggins, National CISO for Health & Social Care, NHS-X; John Noble CBE, Non-Executive Director, NHS Digital; and Sir Ian Andrews CBE, Vice-Chair, National Preparedness Commission. In addition, online workshops will feature discussions around keeping patient data secure, digital strategies and advancements in healthcare, the impact of cybersecurity incidents on patients’ health, and securing supply chains. 

Martin Smith MBE, Founder and Chairman of SASIG, and Scott Greenwood, Group Technology Risk Governance & Assurance Director, BupaHealthcare, will co-chair the symposium 
 

Commenting about plans for the symposium, SASIG’s Martin Smith said: “Hospitals directly affected by cyberattacks can be forced to cancel vital medical treatment and delay outpatient appointments. Millions can be lost through reduced activity and potentially delaying critical care. 
 

We will explore how all those responsible for safeguarding patient information can pragmatically manage the security of health and care information, and what the future of healthcare looks like in an increasingly digital age.
