Prime Vision helps Ireland get their digital stamp

Prime Vision helps Ireland get their digital stamp

Want to send a birthday card at the last minute but you're out of stamps? In Ireland, that shouldn't be a problem anymore, since the Irish national postal company An Post introduced the digital stamp.

Computer Vision and Robotics expert Prime Vision provided key software components to be integrated in An Post's new Digital Stamp solution. Prime Vision also ensured that the existing Sorting Software is able to identify the stamp codes.

Following a small number of other countries, people in Ireland can now buy a code via the An Post app, which they write by hand on the letter or card, where you would normally stick a stamp. The digital stamp costs a bit more than a physical adhesive stamp, but in return, An Post added the unique feature of letting the sender know by text, email or push notification when the letter or card has been delivered.

The digital stamp makes it a lot easier for An Post customers to send mail when they want and from wherever they are at the time, to addresses within the Republic of Ireland. While they'll never be stuck for a stamp, the letter or card must however be posted in a mailbox in time for it to be delivered by An Post on the next business day.
