JING TEA RECOMMENDS THE PERFECT TEAS

TO DRINK ON NATIONAL CREAM TEA DAY, 26 JUNE 2020

London, 18 June 2020

To mark National Cream Tea Day in the UK on Friday 26 June 2020 and inspired by the 750% increase in searches for ‘cream tea home deliveries' since the start of Lockdown as reported by the BBC, JING Tea's experts have identified the perfect teas to drink with this traditional afternoon tea of scones, clotted cream and jam.

JING's founder, Ed Eisler, will host a free, live ‘JING Encounters' webinar focusing on his choice of teas to pair with cream tea on Wednesday 24 June at 3pm BST.  Register on jingtea.com.

Ed commented: "A rich and malty breakfast-style tea is the best counterpoint to scones with thick clotted cream, sweetened with sticky strawberry jam.  And for such an occasion, it's a must to make the tea loose in a teapot and to add good quality milk".

Of all the tea origins, Assam comes out top as the best breakfast tea to pair with cream tea, according to JING's experts, thanks to its strong, rich, robust teas which are big on malt flavour.

As opposed to adding milk last as one would when making a cup of breakfast tea with a teabag, Ed recommends adding cold milk to the cup before pouring on the loose leaf tea infusion from the pot to deliver a better taste, combining the tea and milk more seamlessly.

He also recommends using a glass or ceramic teapot rather than metal, and ensuring that every last drop is poured from the teapot as it is the final drops that are closest to the leaves and therefore contain a huge amount of the strength and flavour to deliver the ultimate cup of tea.

Ed Eisler founded London-based single garden tea brand, JING Tea, in 2004.  Its teas are served at many 5* hotels including The Savoy, The Berkeley and The Langham, and are chosen by Michelin starred chefs and restaurants internationally.  JING has a store in St Christopher's Place, London W1, which is currently closed, but its online shop remains open at jingtea.com.
