TO HOST UK'S BIGGEST EVER SHUFFLEBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS

SHUFL, the only dedicated UK shuffleboard brand, has announced that it will host the sixthEuropean Shuffleboard Championshipin London for the first time ever this November.  The championship will be hosted atBrewDog's Outpost Tower HillonSaturday 16 November 2019and will see 40 contestants competing to be crowned European Shuffleboard Champion with the chance to scoop an impressive £2,500 prize. 

Established in 2013, the championship is the ultimate European shuffleboard player's tournament and has historically attracted amateur players from all over Europe.

Says BrewDog Tower Hill general manager, Rob Woolford: "We're excited to be hosting the UK's first major shuffleboard tournament on our Tower Hill 22-footers. We host our own monthly tournament and have built up a dynamic shuffleboard player community.  It's great to see SHUFL taking the game to new heights, giving the UK shuffleboard community a chance to compete on a European stage for a serious cash prize."

Championship details

Puck off will be on Saturday 16 November at 11am with the final scheduled for 9pm. A pre-event warm-up and social will take place at BrewDog Tower Hill on Friday 15 November from 6pm.  Forty players will compete on four tournament-grade 22 ft Grand Championship SHUFL tables and are guaranteed to play a minimum of four games in the group stages. 

Tickets are priced at £50 and can be purchased viaEventbrite. A ticket includes two complimentary drinks, a BrewDog buffet, a SHUFL swag bag of goodies and a 25% discount on all additional drinks purchased.  

UK social media competition & regional qualifiers

Four championship wildcard entries will be decided via a SHUFL social media competition and three regional qualifiers hosted by SHUFL partners.

The competition, running on all SHUFL UK social media channels, is offering one shuffleboard player the chance to win a free place at the Championships plus accommodation at a 5-star hotel.

A further three free places are reserved for winners of UK qualifier tournaments, taking place at the following SHUFL partner venues in September:

• Sports Bar & Grill, Canary Wharf - 9 September
• The Gas Works, Manchester - 12 September
• Roxy Ballroom, Leeds - 19 September

What's shuffleboard?

• A competitive game of skill that shares elements of curling, bowls and petanque.  Players slide metal pucks along the playing surface towards the opposite score zones, with points awarded for accuracy. 

Who can play?

• Anyone.  It's an inclusive game that doesn't discriminate - young and old, male and female, novice and pro, wheelchair users and able-bodied - with up to 8 players able to play in each game.

• Sip n slide - our recommended playing stance with a hand wrapped firmly around your favourite drink.
• A hanger - the perfect five-pointer or maximum score that one puck can earn coming to rest hanging off the edge of the table
• A curve shot - an advanced play move where you shoot from the edge of the table and use the precision-engineered curve - exclusive to SHUFL tables - to wind your way down to the scoring zone.
