Pupils help shape their future as work progresses on the new £23m home for The Court School
Cardiff Council is celebrating major milestones in the new
development of The Court School, with a series of exciting events and community
engagement initiatives taking place throughout June.
The £23 million project, delivered under Cardiff Council
and the Welsh Government's Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, will
see the construction of two new school sites - one in Fairwater and one in
Llanrumney. The new school, named Ysgol Cynefin (meaning "habitat
school"), reflects a deep connection between people and the natural world,
promoting identity and wellbeing.
In partnership with Kier, the contractor chosen to design
and deliver the new school, a range of activities from hands-on design
workshops to a family fun day and a ceremonial structure signing, are bringing
pupils, parents, and the wider community into the heart of the development
process.
New
exercise area opens in Victoria Park
A new exercise area has opened to the public in Cardiff's
Victoria Park.
Complete with pull up bars, leg lifts, dip benches, tyre
flips and jumping blocks, the new fitness area will allow visitors to the park
to take their workout regime to the next level.
The low maintenance equipment is designed to encourage
people of all ages and abilities to try calisthenics. It can be used for free
by individuals and by group classes of up to 20-30 people at a time.
Work
to Upgrade Taff Trail Through Hailey Park Set to Begin This Autumn
As part of the Council’s commitment to improve cycling
routes across the city, work to upgrade the section of Taff Trail through
Hailey Park will begin in early autumn.
Following two rounds of public consultation and a thorough
review, a revised scheme has been selected. The upgraded cycleway will be 3.5
metres wide, adjusted from the original 5-metre proposal in response to public
feedback. The new route will broadly follow the alignment of the existing path.
The upgraded path will be constructed using a buff-coloured
tarmac to blend in with the parkland setting, will minimise the impact on
green space, while ensuring the route is no longer near the children's play
area - an issue that was highlighted during public consultations.
Food
Wholesaler Jailed for Hygiene Offences and Selling Mislabelled Halal Chicken to
South Wales Restaurants & Takeaways
Two food wholesalers were sentenced yesterday for selling
non-halal chicken, as halal to food businesses across South Wales.
Yesterday at Merthyr Crown Court, Helim Miah was sent to
prison for 4 years and 8 months for fraudulent trading and breaching insolvency
law, while Noaf Rahman was given a two-year sentence, suspended for two years
and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
The sentencing followed an investigation by Cardiff and the
Vale Shared Regulatory Services into Universal Foods (Wholesale) Ltd, based at
Bessemer Close, Cardiff.
The pair sold halal-labelled chicken to Indian takeaways
and restaurants across South Wales. However, investigations revealed that their
suppliers often did not provide halal meat.
