Community and voluntary groups across Cardiff are being invited to apply for grant funding to enhance and improve their community buildings.
Through the Community Building Grants Scheme, organisations can apply for up to £10,000 to carry out a range of internal and external improvements. These may include:
·
Enhancing accessibility
·
Upgrading security
·
Refurbishing kitchens
·
Installing energy efficiency measures
The
aim is to help local facilities become more welcoming, sustainable, and better
used by the communities they serve.
Funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, the scheme requires applicants to contribute at least 15% of the total project cost from other sources.
Eligible buildings include community halls, centres, and other facilities that are open and accessible to the wider public—not just to specific groups or members. Applications received for buildings in deprived areas or which serve significant numbers of people from these deprived areas will be scored as a higher priority compared to other applications.
Cabinet Member for housing and Communities, Cllr Lee Bridgeman said: “We’re encouraging community organisations to come forward with ideas that will make their buildings more accessible, more energy-efficient, and more useful to the people who rely on them. Whether it’s a new kitchen, better lighting, or improved access, this funding is here to help."
Grants can be used for structural improvements, fire safety upgrades, new windows and doors, toilet facilities, electrical and drainage systems, and more. However, funding cannot be used for routine maintenance, staffing or running costs, or projects that are already underway or completed.
