It's time for the last of our housing 🧵 and the theme is Building the ‘Right' Homes. What do we mean? Lean in.
Building more homes is a priority for sure, but we're also making certain that the homes we build are right for the people who will live in them, meetings their needs and aspirations.
All of our new Council houses meet accessibility & Lifetime homes standards, designed & built with
✅Ground floor wet-room
✅Level access to front & back doors
✅Wider stairs ready for future stair lift installation
✅Knock out panel in ceiling for a future through-floor lift
Our new homes are highly sustainable, highly energy-efficient with renewable technologies meaning they're built for today - helping to save residents money on energy costs, and for the future - they're kinder to the planet.
Now, the number of older people in Cardiff is expected to rise significantly over coming years so it's essential we're planning ahead to ensure our homes are fit for purpose, helping older people to stay active & independent for longer.
So within our programme, we have plans for a range of new older person's accommodation including Community Living, Designated Older Persons & Multi-generational schemes.

Talking about fab views, the outlook from the new apartments at our Leckwith Road Community Living development isn't too bad either.
These 44 apartments, in the heart of the community with great access to local amenities, will be ready early next year.

Altogether, our older person's accommodation schemes represent a £200m investment to build at least 620 new apartments for older people. You can find out about other schemes in the programme here: https://www.devandregencardiff.co.uk/housing/housing-developments/
And the beauty of these schemes is, they're not only creating modern homes for independent living, they're also helping to increase availability of council homes for families, when older tenants move from larger homes to apartments that better meets their present needs. Win win!
And on that note, we've come to the end of our week-long series of 🧵, looking at housing in Cardiff. We hope you found the info useful.
