Free meals and activities provided through Cardiff's multi-award-winning school holiday enrichment programme
Now in its ninth year, Cardiff's Food and Fun returns this year, with a record number of schools signed up to deliver the holiday enrichment programme.
28 schools including three secondary schools, 20 English medium primary schools, two Welsh medium primary schools, two special schools and one pupil referral unit will mean that more than 1700 pupils will have access to the multi-award-winning health and well-being provision during the school holidays.
With the aim of helping to ease the financial pressures on many families across the city during the summer break, Food and Fun provides healthy nutritious meals alongside opportunities to socialise, engage in physical activity and learn new skills.
The exciting programme includes educational, skills and sports provision provided by a number of city-wide partners and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board who support nutrition education sessions.
Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "I am delighted that the Food and Fun programme is reaching more children than ever this year, ensuring many families benefit by helping to ease the financial burden that the six-week school holiday brings.
"Importantly, those children who need it most, can access a wide range of activities which they may not usually have the opportunity to take part in, from sports, social engagement, healthy meals and food and nutrition sessions.
"This is thanks to successful partnership working and a team of dedicated staff, who play a key role in supporting positive health and wellbeing in children, aligning with our broader mission to embed children's rights into the fabric of the city following our achievement of becoming the first UK Child Friendly City in 2023."
Wider Consequences for Landlord in Rent Smart Wales Conviction
A Welsh landlord is paying the price for flouting Rent Smart Wales requirements, after being found guilty of managing rented properties without a licence.
Gareth Davies, 44, of Caswell, Swansea was convicted under Section 7(5) of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 of failing to be licensed to carry out property management activities in relation to three properties in Swansea, at Cardiff Magistrates Court yesterday.
In addition to being fined £2,383, the consequences of his conviction goes beyond financial reprimand, with an ongoing impact on his ability to manage properties in the private rented sector in Wales.
Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities at Cardiff Council, the single licensing authority for Rent Smart Wales, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: "Rent Smart Wales was established to improve standards of letting and management in the private rented sector in Wales, and to achieve that aim, a ‘fit and proper' test is applied to everyone who applies for a license to let and manage properties to ensure they are of sufficient integrity and good character in order to do so.
"One consideration in this fit and proper test is whether an individual has any previous criminal convictions - and failure to register as a landlord, or hold a licence is a criminal offence. The implications go far beyond fines for this landlord."
Ms. Lauryn Hill & The Fugees add Cardiff Music City Festival date to The Miseducation Anniversary Tour
Last month, 5x Grammy winner and one of the most notable hip hop, R&B, and fashion/style icons of all time, Ms. Lauryn Hill announced she would be once again reuniting with The Fugees, to co-headline an extension of The Miseducation Anniversary Tour in honour of her landmark album. Due to the great fan response, Ms. Hill and The Fugees are announcing they are adding additional European dates to the run - including a show on Wednesday 9th October at Utilita Arena in Cardiff as part of the new Cardiff Music City Festival.
The show will also now be stopping in Dublin, Cologne, Antwerp and Hamburg, with a second night added in Paris.
The Fugees will co-headline all dates and the tour will feature music from The Miseducation of Ms. Lauryn Hill, The Score and more.

Cardiff Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events, Cllr Jennifer Burke said: "Ms. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees continue to have a significant global influence on music and culture so securing them to play at the first Cardiff Music City Festival, on a bill featuring iconic artists like Leftfield and Orbital, alongside cutting-edge new music from the likes of Alabaster DePlume and Kneecap is a real coup."
