Here is our latest update, covering: details of our collections of real Christmas trees; preparations for the Rhiwbina Community Wellbeing Hub opening; public consultation on Fairwater Community Campus; and the Parc Cefn Onn user survey.

Collecting Real Christmas Trees

We are running household collections of real Christmas trees on the below dates. Trees must be put on the kerbside loose. Please take care to remove all Christmas decorations.

Trees over 6ft need to be cut in half. Trees must not be placed into green bins/white re-useable sacks. No other garden waste will be collected.  

Christmas trees can be brought to a Household Recycling Centre and placed into the garden waste skip. Please remember to book an appointment.

Your tree will need to be brought loose - we will be unable to accept any netting, sacks or bags.

Rhiwbina Community Wellbeing Hub

The city's newest hub is preparing to open after the major refurbishment of a north Cardiff library.

Rhiwbina Community Wellbeing Hub will welcome customers back to the former library building on Pen-Y-Dre on Monday, January 16 following the remodelling of the facility to enable the delivery of additional and enhanced services for the community.

With funding from Welsh Government's Integrated Care Fund, Integration and Rebalancing Care Fund (IRCF) and MALD (Museums, Archives and Libraries Division), the building has been transformed into a fit-for-purpose community facility that will support the co-location of library services with new advice, health and wellbeing, housing and social care services which will be delivered in the new community rooms, meetings rooms and interview areas.

Visitors to the hub will also benefit from a new computer suite, a bright and inviting children's area, new library shelving and new toilets including an accessible WC with baby changing facilities. Outside, the rear garden area has been landscaped to provide an attractive space with a seating area.

Fairwater Community Campus: Public consultation now open

A public consultation on the development of a pioneering joint education campus for Cardiff opened yesterday.

Members of the public are asked to share their views during a pre-application consultation (PAC) on plans for Fairwater Community Campus so that they can be considered before a planning application is submitted to Cardiff Council's Planning Committee.

Delivered under Cardiff Council and Welsh Governments Band B Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, the scheme is the largest in scale and investment and will see new build schools for Cantonian High School, Riverbank School and Woodlands School located on one dedicated site in Fairwater. The joint campus would also boast a range of comprehensive facilities which will be available for public use.

In September 2020, Cardiff Council's Cabinet approved the scheme following approval from the Welsh Government in July 2020. The proposals include:

• Replacing the Cantonian High School buildings with new build accommodation on the same site expanding the school from six forms of entry (6FE) to eight forms of entry (8FE) with sixth form provision for up to 250 pupils;
• Expanding the Specialist Resource Base (SRB) for learners with an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), hosted at Cantonian High School to 30 places in purpose built accommodation in the new school buildings;
• Relocating Woodlands School to the Fairwater Campus site from its current site adjacent to Trelai Park and increasing the capacity to 240 places in new build accommodation;
• Relocating Riverbank School to the Fairwater Campus site from its current site adjacent to Trelai Park, and increasing the capacity to 112 places in new build accommodation.
