Pontprennau Primary School pupil breaks world record for naming countries and currencies
A Year 3 pupil from Pontprennau Primary School has created history by becoming the youngest person to confidently recite the capital cities and corresponding currencies for all the 195 countries across the world, in a record time of 7min 15 secs.
Eight-year-old Anne Winston achieved the world record in a live streamed event organised by OMG Book of World Records.
At just three years old when travelling to and from nursery and then onto school, Anne's dad would tell her about all the various countries across the world. This sparked her interest to learn more about the capitals and their currencies and over four years, Anne taught herself.
Describing the process, Anne said; "My learning was quite casual initially on a weekly basis where I used to spend 15 - 20 minutes learning a new set of capitals and currencies. Towards the end, I was practising on a daily basis."
She added; "I am really delighted to have achieved this world record which I did as a dedication to my lovely grandfather who passed away recently. I hope my attempt inspires many other children across the world and makes a positive difference. I want to thank my entire family, teachers, friends and all well-wishers who have supported me throughout my journey to make this possible."

Information on ideas for things that children and young people can do in Cardiff over the summer is now available on our website.

Living Wage campaign earns council national honour
Cardiff Council's commitment to paying its employees the Living Wage and encouraging employers to follow suit has earned a national honour for the Living Wage City Partnership.
At the prestigious Local Government Chronicle awards, held in London's Grosvenor Hotel this week, the council won in the Public/Private Partnership category.
Making the award, the judges said the council's submission demonstrated both passion and commitment with an impressive whole council approach, adding: "It has clearly built momentum over several years, to the extent that there is a clear and broad coalition of public, private and voluntary sector parameters.
"It has developed an impressive momentum that has helped engender greater independence and reduced the dependency on public services."
The council made a commitment to pay the Living Wage (currently £9.90 an hour) over 10 years ago and has led the way in Wales and the UK in promoting the Living Wage.

More children than ever to access free meals and sports this summer as Cardiff responds to increased cost of living
Cardiff's multi-award-winning Food and Fun programme will reach more children than ever this summer, helping to ease the financial pressures on many families across the city during the school holiday period.
The school holiday enrichment programme which provides healthy nutritious meals alongside opportunities to socialise, engage in physical activity and learn new skills, will this year be delivered to 29 of Cardiff's schools, meaning that more than 1500 children and young people will access the provision.
The exciting programme of educational, skills and sports provision will be delivered by a number of city-wide partners with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board supporting the nutrition education sessions.
Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "Many people will be feeling the effects of the current cost of living crisis but for some families the impact is far greater, particularly with the added financial burden that the six-week school holiday brings."
