Carers Week in Cardiff hubs and libraries

6/6/22

A special drop-in session for carers, hosted by Carers UK, will take place at Rhydypennau Hub on Thursday June 9.

During the annual Carers Week (June 6 -12), the event will be an opportunity for anyone with caring responsibilities to meet, chat and access support, facilitated by the Carers Wales Listening Support Team.

The team will be available at the hub from 10am to 4pm and the session is just one of many carers-themed events taking place at hubs and libraries across the city during Carers Week.

Regular coffee mornings and FAN (Friends and Neighbours) Groups will focus on caring, who we care for and how. The service will also be highlighting the benefits of some of its weekly online activities - such as mindfulness and light exercise sessions, for carers and those they care for.

Cardiff Cares Academy, the Council's training and recruitment service that provides people who want to become care workers in the city with all the training and support they need to get into the role, will also be visiting hubs to provide information and advice to anyone interested in learning more about opportunities in the sector.

Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Cllr Norma Mackie, said: "Carers play a very important role in our city, whether it's unpaid carers looking after a loved one or neighbour who couldn't manage without them, or the wonderful care workers who support the vulnerable and elderly every day.

"Many people who care don't actually identify as carers and don't know about the wide range of advice and support available to help them in their caring role. Our awareness sessions at hubs and libraries seek to ensure that carers know how to access this support while the informal coffee sessions and group get-togethers will be a chance to share experiences with others."
