Choice for Free School Meal families

14/1/2020

In Cardiff, whilst schools are closed due to COVID-19 and during school holiday periods, parents and carers of children receiving Free School Meals are sent a downloadable voucher.

Welsh Government has confirmed that this will be to the value of £19.50 per child. As a result Cardiff will be revising its voucher value from the beginning of this term and an additional payment will be processed and sent out to parents in the next few days.

This can now be spent in seven different supermarkets including Aldi, Asda, Iceland, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainbury's and Waitrose and allows the flexibility for parents and carers to purchase their child's food from where they choose.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, ourdedicated team have worked hard to make surethat more than 13,000families with children eligible for free school meals, continue to receive vital meal provision.

This has included thedevelopment of new a BACS payment system, a new supermarket voucher scheme and at the beginning of lockdown the successful delivery of 45,000 packed lunches."
