A guide to the reopening of
schools
Schools in
Cardiff welcomed many of their pupils back this week and many more will return
next week.
Families are
reminded that
under no circumstances should learners attend school if they:
· feel unwell, or have any of the three
identified COVID-19 symptoms (a new continuous cough, a high temperature or
loss of taste or smell) or they have tested positive to COVID-19 in the past 14
days
· live in a household with someone who
has symptoms of COVID-19 or has tested positive to COVID-19 in the past 14
days.
Parents are
also reminded to maintain social distancing during drop-off and pick-up times
and to avoid congregating in or around school sites.

School Streets’ road closures
to promote social distancing and encourage active travel
The Council is planning to
implement ‘School Street' road closures to help pupils and families maintain
social distancing as schools return for the Autumn term.
In June, temporary road closures were introduced to create ‘School
Streets' at 24 schools across the city when they reopened for the last few
weeks of the summer term.
The streets selected for closures regularly experience problems with
traffic and parking during school drop-off and pick-up times. Closing
them to general traffic supported children and families to socially distance
when arriving and leaving school.
Following positive feedback from schools, pupils, parents and local
residents, the Council plans to implement a number of ‘School Streets' from
Monday 14, September.

Changes to local Recycling Centres
·
Residents
can now book 26 visits per year to our local recycling centres, increased from
12
·
2
people can now get out of the vehicle to help move heavier items, so no need to
book a bulky collection unless necessary
·
We
advise that face coverings are now worn
·
Please
do not visit the recycling centres if you’re showing any symptoms of COVID19
We do not accept bags of
mixed waste. For example we will not accept a bag containing food mixed with
recyclable materials.
If you have this type of waste to dispose of you can pay for our
service, or use a private waste contractor. You will need to make sure they are a registered waste carrier.
Non-recyclable
waste
If you have items that we cannot
recycle you can bring them to the site.
Before putting them in the skip our
site attendants will need to confirm that your items are non-recyclable. We
recommend you use clear bags or a container to help with this process. If you
need to use bags to transport the items, you will need to open them to show our
staff. You must not use Council issued green bags.
Please take a moment to read our
recycling centre guidelines and book here: www.cardiff.gov.uk/recyclingcentres
