Reminder of waste and recycling arrangements for the next few days and weeks
Last of the May Saturday Garden Waste collections
The residents of Rhiwbina, Llanishen, Lisvane, Heath and Whitchurch will receive their garden waste collection tomorrow, Saturday 30thMay. This is the last phase of the one-off green garden waste collections provided during May.
Saturday Garden Waste collections extended
The council has recently announced that the one-off collections for garden waste will now be extended into June and the first week of July, with every household in the city receiving a further Saturday collection.

General Waste, Recycling and Food Waste collections back to normal from Monday
From Monday 1stJune, weekly kerbside collections for recyclables and food waste will return to normal service and residents are being reminded to put the correct items in the containers provided so the council can recycle and compost as much waste as possible.
This means that residents are being asked to begin using their brown kerbside food caddies again from Monday, and to make sure all their recyclables go into their green bags for collection.
Cardiff's recycling sorting facility, which is where the city's green bags are sorted and processed for recycling, is being re-opened which means that recyclable waste will no longer be sent to an energy recovery facility.
This measure was only put in place to protect our staff and the public during the council's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Waste collected in the black bin or red striped bags will now go back to being collected once every fortnight and residents are reminded that any side waste will not be collected.

Bulky Waste collections
From Monday, residents will be able to book a bulky waste collection service by calling the C2C contact centre on 02920 872087. Alternatively any bulky collections which are free of charge can be booked through the council's social media channels.
Appointments will start from 8thJune onwards and residents are being reminded to be patient, as it is expected there will be a high demand for this service.
Recycling Centres
Bessemer Close Recycling Centre has been open on an appointment only basis for specific types of waste since Tuesday, May 26th. Lamby Way Recycling Centre is also re-opening on the same terms from this Sunday, May 31st.
New rules have been out in place at Cardiff's recycling centres to ensure social distancing requirements can be followed.

Reaction to today's Welsh Government changes to lockdown
Council leaders have today welcomed the First Minister's cautious approach in taking modest steps to gradually ease the lockdown in Wales.
From Monday, individuals from separate households within the same locality will be able to meet outside whilst maintaining the 2-metre social distancing rule.
All residents in Wales will be required to observe the new guidance set out by Welsh Government.

Cardiff Youth Service Post 16 Youth Mentors find new ways of supporting young people
Post 16 Youth Mentors are working hard supporting young people, despite the Covid-19 lock down restrictions that prevent them from working in direct contact with their clients.
All of the team continue to maintain contact with their individual clients offering support such as advocacy and brokerage, with a priority focus on the most vulnerable. Emergency food parcels have been distributed by the team in conjunction with routine welfare checks.
One of our Mentors has been working in conjunction with Grassroots to produce informative cookery videos. The videos which can be found on YouTube (link below) has been teaching young people how to produce tasty, nutritious and affordable meals.
Regular contact has also been maintained with the young parents who form part of the Babyroots project, which increases young parents wellbeing, promotes parent-child interaction, reduces isolation and creates pathways into education, employment, training & volunteering. They are all looking forward to returning to the provision when things get back to normal and it opens once again.
