St Philip Evans Roman Catholic Primary School: ‘Highly successful and nurturing' says Estyn

St Philip Evans Roman Catholic Primary School in Llanedeyrn, has achieved ‘excellent' in all five areas inspected by Estyn - the highest rating possible.

During a recent visit, the education inspectorate for Wales found the school to be highly successful and nurturing with pupils developing very strong literacy, numeracy and information and communication technology (ICT) skills.

Inspectors described pupil's wellbeing and attitudes to learning as exemplary and that they are kind, caring and supportive of each other.  

During the visit they found the school's curriculum to be engaging and teachers and support staff ensure that all pupils, including those with particular needs receive highly effective support, ensuring that pupils are happy in school and engage well with their learning.  

The report went on to say that the headteacher leads the school expertly and that leadership at the school is very strong with leaders at all levels knowing staff and pupils well, working successfully to create a harmonious, nurturing learning environment. 

Reflecting on the school's success, Headteacher Catherine Power said: "We are delighted that the Inspection team recognised St Philip Evans as the amazing school that it is. 

"We have wonderful children who are great learners, well informed Governors, supportive parents and a great parish and local community.  All members of our very talented staff team are totally dedicated to ensuring that all of our children make very good progress with their wellbeing and learning. 

"I am honoured to lead this school and consider myself to have the best job in the world!"

Cardiff Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "I am delighted to read the comments made by Estyn about the school.

"The head, staff, pupils and wider school community have clearly worked hard to establish such a nurturing, learning environment and they should feel exceptionally proud of what they have achieved. Congratulations on a fantastic Estyn report."
