The Big Gig returns with big opportunities for musicians in South Wales
Music talent competition, the Big Gig is back for a ninth year with big prizes and big opportunities for musicians in South Wales.

Prizes this year include a coveted spot on the bill at Sŵn Festival 2020, plus recording time with legendary producer Charlie Francis, who has worked with a range of artists, from Future of the Left, to Turin Brakes, Robyn Hitchcock, Wilco and REM.

The competition, which is open to artists making any genre of music, will culminate in two semi-finals, to be held in January ahead of the grand final on February 15that Clwb Ifor Bach, where artists will have the chance to showcase their music at the heart of Cardiff's music scene, in front of a panel of industry experts.

A Cardiff Council spokesperson, said: "Cardiff is one of the UK's creative powerhouses - the city's creative sector already employs over 15,000 people and generates more than £1 billion of value for the local economy.

"With the city's first music board ready to start driving forward plans to incorporate music into the city's structure, it's an exciting time to be involved in music in Cardiff.

"We want to integrate music into every aspect of the city from planning to tourism, and ultimately, protect and grow Cardiff's music sector - part of that is about supporting new artists and the Big Gig is a great chance for young musicians to showcase their talent and make their mark on the music industry."

Previous Big Gig winners have gone on to perform at Swn Festival and Glastonbury as well as being booked to appear as part of Cardiff Council's events programme.

Judges for this year have yet to be confirmed but have previously includedSouth Wales Echo music critic David Owens, former Coldplay Manger Estelle Wilkinson and Swn Festival founder, John Rostron.
