Supporting city's families, young people and children

A new service to support children, young people and families across Cardiff has been officially launched in the city today.

Cardiff Family Advice and Support brings together a range of information, advice and assistance for children, young people and their families which can be accessed through  a single point of entry: the Family Gateway. The Gateway is a contact point for any professional, parent, child or young person living or working in Cardiff, to get the help they need.

Knowledgeable, friendly and highly trained Family Gateway Contact Officers are available to listen to a family's situation, work with them to identify the support that is best for them and help them to access it.

Support is available on a range of issues including child behaviour, childcare, parental support, family relationships, worries about school attendance, health and well-being, and much more.

The service can be contacted by telephone on 03000 133 133 and is available from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am-4.30pm on a Friday.  An e-mail address is also available ContactFAS@cardiff.gov.uk

Today's launch took place at a special event at City Hall where guests were given an overview of the service.

Speakers at today's launch included a young person who has experienced challenges but received the right support to help them to move on, and Connor Clarke, a member of UK Youth Parliament who was involved in interviewing for the Family Help Advisor roles, providing a young person's voice and perspective into the recruitment process.

Guests at the event also heard feedback from people who have received support from the service, including a young person and a mother and father.

A council spokesperson said: "Cardiff Family Advice and Support provides a comprehensive early help service, providing information, advice and assistance to families, children and young people across the city to ensure they get support at the right time and in a way that matters to them.

"The service ranges from helping people navigate the system and signposting to appropriate services as well as more intensive, tailored support to help address some of the challenges and issues families might be facing.

"The Family Gateway team will listen to a customer's situation, will work with them to identify the support that is best for them and help them to access it."

A brand new  Cardiff Family Advice and Support website has been developed  at www.cardifffamilies.co.uk and the service can also be contacted on 03000 133 133 or by emailing ContactFAS@cardiff.gov.uk
