The search is on for Cardiff's favourite book, during this year's Libraries Week next week.

Libraries Week (October 7 - 12) is the annual celebration of the nation's much-loved libraries and this week, Cardiff Libraries and Hubs are asking residents across the city what is their favourite book of all time.

Adults and children who visit hubs and libraries across the city this week  will be asked about their favourite book while customers can also complete a short online survey athttps://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=156881244313to tell the service which book is their favourite.

The most popular adults' book and the top children's book in the city will be announced once the votes have been counted.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said:  "Libraries week is an opportunity to encourage everyone in the community to discover what their local library or hub can do for them.  As well as thousands of books, ebooks, audio books and many more resources, the service also provides a range of activities and events for both adults and children throughout the year and Libraries Week is the perfect opportunity to find out more about your local facility.

"We all have a favourite book. Maybe's it's one we return to many times, or one that has a real impact on us and stays with us over the years. Maybe it's a children's book that was read to you when you were younger, a favourite you love reading to your own children or the latest from a best-selling author that you just can't put down. It doesn't matter which, we want to know about  your favourite book."

Visitors to Cathays Branch and Heritage Library on Wednesday, October 9 (3pm) during Libraries Week will have the opportunity to experience the history of the Suffragettes, by using

virtual reality headsets borrowed from the BBC. The headsets are suitable for over 13-year-olds and over and young people aged 13 to 16 years old who wish to try the experience must be accompanied by an adult.

Cathays will also host an exhibition about suffrage from the Museum of Cardiff from October 7- 24.

World Mental Health Day (October 10) falls within Libraries Week and to raise awareness of the day and the positive role libraries and hubs can play in people's health and wellbeing, Cardiff Libraries Service will be hosting talking tables  or ‘Talking Points' at hubs and libraries across the city.

Talking Points are aimed at facilitating more conversation and building closer support networks for people within their local community, which in turn reduces loneliness and improves mental wellbeing. Library and hub users are welcome to pop in for a chat with each other or a member of staff about whatever they like throughout the day.
