Star from BBC One's The Greatest Dancer set to visit Woodlands High School

A contestant from BBC One'sThe Greatest Dancerwill make a special visit to Woodlands High School later this month at one pupil's remarkable request.

Hannah Holdam watched Andrew Self on the TV talent show, as he melted the hearts of the nation during his energetic routine toCan't Stop the Feelingby Justin Timberlake - he even brought famous judge Cheryl to tears.

Andrew's performance inspired many viewers including pupils and staff at the school after Acting Deputy Head teacher, Mrs Lisa Purcell showed it during assembly.

Hannah, aged 18, who like Andrew has Down's syndrome and also shares his love of dancing, wrote to Andrew to ask if he would like to be a judge at the school's annual talent show.

Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Councillor Sarah Merry said: "This is a heart-warming example of how the wonderful teaching staff at Woodlands look to inspire and encourage creativity, which can help to promote children's confidence and self-esteem.

"This is very exciting for the school and I would like to extend a warm Welsh welcome to Andrew and his mum and wish him and all the children the very best of luck for the talent show."

Acting Deputy Head teacher at Woodlands High School, Mrs Lisa Purcell said "I watched the first episode ofThe Greatest Dancerand was really impressed with Andrew's performance. He is an excellent role model and an inspiration for the young people in our school.

"Hannah is also an excellent dancer and we are very proud of her and of all our pupils at Woodlands who have so many talents and skills. We are thrilled that Andrew has agreed to visit our school and be a judge at our annual talent show and we're hoping he may do a dance for us!"

On receiving the letter Andrew said; "Thank you for inviting me to your talent show, I would love to be a judge like Len Goodman!"
