Committees Scrutinise Dog Control Proposals

Cardiff's Economy & Culture and Environmental Scrutiny Committees will be scrutinising the Council's recent proposals and consultation exercise on dog controls at a meeting on Monday 19thNovember 2018.

Dog controls in public spaces have attracted significant public interest in recent months. Many concerned residents have contacted councillors and so it has been agreed that a scrutiny meeting will be held to review the recent public consultation exercise; gather feedback from stakeholders and the public; and discuss a range of potential options to address concerns around dog control.

Chair of the Council's Environmental Scrutiny Committee, Cllr Ramesh Patel said:"It is clear that local residents are concerned about the proposals identified in the recent consultation exercise.  At the meeting it will be our responsibility to review the consultation exercise, receive and listen to public and stakeholder feedback and work with the Cabinet to help identify a sensible way forward for dealing with dog control across Cardiff".

Chair of the Economy and Culture Scrutiny Committee, Cllr Nigel Howells said:"As a councillor and sports fan I fully understand the importance of clean and safe sports pitches. At the same time, we have to acknowledge that they are also used by many other residents and visitors who value our excellent green spaces for the wider recreational benefits that they offer. In holding this meeting I would like to ask individuals and groups who use these facilities to share their views with us so that we can feed your thoughts into future policy development for dog controls in public spaces".

The meeting will take place on Monday 19thNovember 2018 at 5:30pm.  The venue for the meeting is Committee Room 4 in County Hall, Cardiff Bay.  As space in Committee Room 4 is limited, a second meeting room with a screen showing proceedings will be available in County Hall. The meeting will be webcast to the public.  A full agenda and papers for the meeting will be published on the Cardiff Council website on Tuesday 13thNovember 2018.

Stakeholders and members of the public are invited to make written submissions and request to speak at the meeting. To submit either of these please contact the Cardiff Council Scrutiny Team before midnight on Thursday 15thNovember 2018 using the following:

Please note that if we receive a large number of requests to speak then it may not be possible to accommodate all submissions.  We will notify all those who are able to speak at the meeting on Friday 16thNovember 2018.
