Due to the extreme weather conditions and the unprecedented demand this has placed on the council we will only be able to attend a repair at your council property if we consider it to be a threat to life or limb.

We are asking for your patience in this matter and are advising council tenants not to call the repair line unless it is an emergency. It's vitally important that residents who do need to contact our operators are able to get through quickly.

For those of you in a non-emergency situation we can recommend the following advice on keeping safe and warm.

• If you can't heat all your rooms, make sure you keep your living room warm throughout the day and heat your bedroom before going to bed.
• Wearing the right kind of clothes can help keep you much warmer. Layers are best, t-shirts and under clothes to keep the base of your back warm will heat you from the core.

• If you have elderly relatives or neighbours who might need help, please check up on them.
