Cardiff schools advised to remain closed tomorrow, Friday, March 2nd

Due to the severe weather warning Cardiff Council is recommending that all schools remain closed tomorrow, Friday March 2nd.

The Met Office has updated its forecast for today and tomorrow and have issued a Red Warning, the highest risk level, effective from 3.00pm today until 2.00am tomorrow Friday 2 March.

The forecast states:

"A spell of heavy snow and blizzard conditions is expected. The snow will be accompanied by very strong easterly winds leading to severe drifting. Some places could also see significant ice build up due to freezing rain from later on Thursday evening."

In view of this, and the likely conditions on Fridaythe local authority is advising all schools to close tomorrow to both pupils and staff.

The final decision to close the school remains that of the Headteacher and the Chair of Governors. Parents are therefore advised to check for messages from their schools for the latest information.

Whilst the current weather forecast for the weekend is suggesting some improvement in conditions, schools are being asked to monitor weather reports over the weekend before making a decision with regard to opening the school on Monday 5thMarch. The Council will also monitor the situation and will provide further advice over the weekend if necessary.
