New equipment for Cardiff play area

A Cardiff playground has been given a makeover.

A range of new play equipment has been installed in the park off Horwood Close, near Beresford Road, Splott.

The original equipment was removed from the play area to make way for a works compound which was used by Network Rail while they replaced the Beresford Road bridge as part of the electrification of the main railway line.

The bridge replacement was completed earlier this year and Network Rail have now provided funding to Cardiff Council who have equipped the replacement playground through its Parks Landscape Design team.

The grass areas used within the compound have been reinstated in full and two additional trees have been planted.

As well as the new equipment, a bin has also been installed.

Cllr Peter Bradbury, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Cardiff Council, said: "It is wonderful to see this play area being brought back into use with this fantastic new equipment.

"We are very grateful to Network Rail for providing the funding for the playground makeover."

Andy Thomas, route managing director for Network Rail Wales, said: "We have worked collaboratively with Cardiff Council to help provide a new playground in Splott.

"We care about our lineside neighbours and we'd like to thank the local community for their patience when we recently upgraded Beresford Road bridge as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan to provide better journeys for passengers."
