ANCHOR VANS TO SUPPORT AND RIDE IN TOUR DE TROOPS CYCLISTS
ANCHOR VANS TO SUPPORT AND RIDE IN TOUR DE TROOPS CYCLISTS

Simon Joyce, managing director of Anchor Vans, the UK’s largest commercial vehicle hypermarket, is once again supporting Tour de Troops The Castles, an endurance bike ride challenge taking place from 5 to the 8 June, 2019. Not only that, but Simon is taking part in this year’s challenge.

The four-day test of endurance will see participants cycling a gruelling 570-miles (900km) from Edinburgh to Cardiff, via Windsor taking in three of the UK’s most significant castles.

Simon Joyce, managing director of Anchor Vans said: “We are delighted to once again support this challenge. And this year, I’m excited to take part myself. The dedication of the cyclists is to be hugely admired. They will have devoted many hours of training to build up their stamina, making sure they are in great shape, giving themselves the best possible chance of completing the 570 miles, raising as much money as they can for a well deserving charity.”

Demonstrating its commitment to Tour de Troops The Castles, Anchor Vans, is loaning two SWB Transit 260s for the duration of the ride. The hardy vans, which possess 2.0L engines, acting as an essential resource for the health, safety and wellbeing of riders.

Tour de Troops The Castles is founded by Captain James Wadsworth to raise funds in aid of the military charity, the Felix Fund which supports bomb disposal and search personnel and their families with financial assistance and welfare support.

Capt. Wadsworth’s extensive charity fundraising, through various endurance challenges, has so far raised around £75,000. Having joined the army in 1995, he worked in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and served in dangerous postings in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. Wadsworth was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross in 2008.

“The Felix Fund is a vital and very worthwhile cause. It’s very close to my heart as I have seen first-hand the great things the charity does to help the brave people who need it,” said Capt. Wadsworth.

Anchor Vans is well-known for its support of worthy charities. Members of the Anchor Vans team have taken part in various charitable activities over the years, including the well-known and highly regarded endurance test, Tough Mudder.

“I’m delighted that Simon will personally take on the challenge this year. We are extremely grateful to him and Anchor Vans for the loan of their Transit vans. They are an integral part of this Challenge as without them we could not ensure the safety and security of our riders,” said Capt. Wadsworth.

A special reception party will greet riders as they cross the finishing line, and they will be able to enjoy performances from the Welsh Male Voice Choir, plus a three-course dinner.

“We are really hoping that donations to this year’s Tour de Troops The Castles challenge exceeds the amount raised last year. Anyone wishing to donate can do so here,” said Joyce.
