The Sound Doctor Launches New Diabetes Library
Leading medical online learning resource, The
Sound Doctor, is to add over 60 new evidence-based films, augmenting their
unmatched collection.The social enterprise concerned
with effective patient education, has announced the launch of a new diabetes
library.
This comes as NHS England launches their
Diabetes Prevention Week campaign on 16 April 2018. The campaign aims to raise
awareness of the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP) with
the public and healthcare professionals, specifically GPs and Practice Nurses.
The campaign will also raise awareness of the causes of Type 2 diabetes and the
complications associated with it.
In adding over 60 new evidence-based,
diabetes-focused films to its website-based collection, The Sound Doctor will
offer more culturally diverse material, top tips from patients and consultants,
and new animations as it makes a significant reinforcement to its unrivalled
learning base.
The decision to expand the diabetes library
comes as Diabetes UK recently published research showing that more people than
ever are at risk of Type 2 diabetes. If nothing changes, it is believed that
more than five million people will have diabetes in the UK by 2025.
The latest update to The Sound Doctor's diabetes
library is the result of a periodical review which the website undertakes in
order to ensure its material is as relevant as possible. The new diabetes
library is stronger than ever before on diversity, offering a multicultural
spread of films featuring interviews with patients from around the country.
This is in addition to insight from leading diabetes specialists, with key
interviews from Diabetes UK and the world-renowned Leicester Diabetes Centre
included in the wide mix.
Among the UK Clinical Commissioning Groups who
have already signed up to the new resource are Castle Point and Rochford,
Basildon and Brentwood, North East Essex, Wolverhampton, and Barnsley.
Dr Charles Alessi, Senior Advisor at Public
Health England, has expressed the view that: "The quality of the product
is, in my experience, unmatched anywhere in the world."
Heralding the launch, James Kingsland,
President of the NAPC, said: "The Sound Doctor is the optimum current IT
support programme for enhancing patient empowerment and understanding of their
long-term condition, and the introduction of this new diabetes library has
further strengthened this status.”
Co-founder of The Sound Doctor, Rosie Runciman,
agreed: “With the addition of these new resources, our objective is to become
pivotal for the improvement of self-care for patients with diabetes as an
integral part of care pathway redesign. By providing patients with detailed,
accessible and easily comprehendible online information, the overall management
of their illness becomes more effective and efficient."
