The event is part of Hilton Swindon’s celebration of 175 years of new Swindon. It will see the hotel award a minimoon every year for five years to the winner of its 175 Years, 175 Brides competition.

The competition invites brides or - relatives of brides - who have celebrated their nuptials in the town over the last 175 years to send in pictures of the happy event. A winner will be chosen on the night of the event.

Maxine Gall, events manager at Hilton Swindon, said: “We’ve had a superb response to the 175 Years, 175 Brides campaign and it’s been wonderful to look through the images of weddings in the town going back almost two centuries. This sets us up for what will be a real night to remember on 9 June.”

Caroline Black, project manager at Swindon175, the organisation behind the behind the anniversary celebrations across Swindon throughout the year, said: “Since the birth of Swindon 175 years ago, Swindon has been recognised as a place of innovation and growth. The town has been shaped by industry since the GWR put Swindon on the map and hotels have played a major role. I think what Hilton Swindon is doing in recognition of Swindon175 is a wonderful contribution to our year of celebrations.”

Hilton Swindon sits in the picturesque Wiltshire countryside, just three miles from Swindon town centre. With 171 comfortable rooms and suites, great menu options and a choice of facilities, it can provide everything you need for an amazing wedding day.

This year marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of new Swindon. Sir Daniel Gooch (1816 –1889), 1st Baronet, Conservative politician and Great Western Railway chairman from 1865 to 1889, put Swindon on the map when, in 1840, he recommended the town as the site for locomotive engine repair works. Work began the following year, laying the foundations of the successful town we live in today.

Hilton Swindon’s special reception and award presentation will take place at the hotel on Thursday 9 June 2016 from 6.30 pm – 9.00 pm.
