Metallic to make waves in 2016, says Vicki Porter

Vicki Porter, owner and manager of Oasis Hair Studio, is predicting that metallic colours will be huge in 2016.

According to Vicki, who was one of the first UK stylists to achieve the Matrix Colour Masters Specialist Award, Tortoise Shell, Brush Bronze, Rose Gold, Polish Platinum and Black Pearl will be this year’s must have hair colour treatments.

These trending colour treatments – and many more besides - are proving highly popular at Oasis Hair Studio, on Sheldon Road, Chippenham, where qualified stylists are seeing huge demand for the new look.

Vicki’s prediction comes as celebrity hair stylist, Guy Tang, and Kenra Color have teamed up to launch their Metallic Collection.

Designed for pre-lightened hair, the Silver and Violet Metallics offer artistry and creativity while providing a blue or violet reflection. The Metallic Collection can be used alone to add dimensional highlights or an overall cool steel finish, or combined to create a smokey effect.

Several celebrities, including reality TV star Kylie Jenner and fashion model Jourdan Dunn have embraced metallics. Singer Justin Bieber has also debuted the look with his pastel-hued, long on top style.

Commenting on the trend, Mel Halacoglu, a senior colourist at Hari’s Salon on London’s King’s Road, said: “We were seeing a lot of metallics trending in fashion and we thought, ‘Hmm, why not hair?’”

Vicki said, “The explosion of metallic colours gives customers a whole new range of unique options. The versatile effects of metallic styling are one of the main reasons people are turning to this fashion. If you’re fair-haired it can help tone it down, whereas for brunettes it can softly lighten it.”

Other trends to look out for in 2016 include smokey pastels and precision cuts with soft texture.
