Thrislington dolime plant to be mothballed
Following the significant reduction of steel manufacturing in the UK, and the subsequent closure of the manufacturing plants in the North of England, Lhoist announces the proposal to mothball the dolomitic lime production plant at Thrislington. Soft-burnt dolime is almost exclusively used in the production of steel.
All 40 members of staff at the Thrislington plant will now commence a collective consultation process and management will liaise closely with union and employee representatives.
'Unfortunately demand for dolime from our Thrislington plant has drastically reduced, since the closure of steel manufacturing plants in this region,' commented Cedric de Vicq, Managing Director of Lhoist UK.
‘All members of staff will go through a collective consultation process and we are looking at opportunities to retain staff where possible,' concluded Mr de Vicq.
Notes: Lhoist Group is one of the world's largest producers of lime, dolime and minerals. With headquarters in Belgium, Lhoist is present in 25 countries with more than 90 facilities around the globe.
