When it comes to protecting our beautiful, historic buildings, only the best will do. Hence, Teknos coatings were used in a prestigious renovation project in Northumberland.

Lilburn Tower is a privately-owned, 19th century mansion house in Lilburn, Northumberland. The property is a Grade II* listed building and forms part of the Lilburn Estate. A number of buildings and monuments are scattered across the grange; these include the Hurlstone Tower along with an astronomical observatory.

The ancient manors of East and West Lilburn were united when both were purchased separately by John Clennell of Clennell Hall in 1700 or thereabouts. The ruinous remains of the old 15th century manor house, known as West Lilburn Tower which incorporated a Pele tower, are scheduled as an Ancient Monument and, therefore, protected byGrade II listed building status.

Teknos - The complete coatings solution

Albert Fairnington Joiners was chosen to manufacture a number of new barn doors and stable gates in the rear courtyard of Lilburn Tower.  Due to the size and location of the barn doors, the client wanted to use a timber species that would provide long-term stability and performance. Accoya was selected and Teknos was given the coating remit to provide a gloss opaque system in keeping with the original finish.  Anti-stain Aqua Primer 2901 and Aquatop 2600-26 coating systems were used to achieve the desired finish.

In addition to the new joinery, the existing joinery and rainwater goods were to be prepared and redecorated. The TeknosPro products, Futura Aqua 3 primer and Futura Aqua 80 topcoat, provided the colour and gloss continuity.
