FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Unique Student Transport Scheme For The Fal River Area

Fal River Cornwall, the private sector company which promotes the region, has teamed up with First Kernow and First Great Western once again to offer the only ferry, bus and train student transport scheme in the country.

The Fal Mussel Card UNIgives students and staff at Falmouth University and The University of Exeter (Cornwall Campus) access to travel on the trains, buses and boats of the region for a one-off, discounted cost.

The scheme was launched last year with great success, and will be rolled out again for new and returning students and staff this September.

Alex Carter, Managing Director of First Kernow said the travel group was proud to be part of the innovative scheme: "We know that travel costs can be a major issue for students, especially in rural areas, and so we are pleased to be able to provide improved accessibility at a fixed cost."

The card - an academic version of the scheme available to visitors - means that students have access to unlimited bus travel between Falmouth and Penryn campuses, as well as on all First Kernow bus routes in Cornwall.

Branch line trains between Truro and Falmouth are included with the card, which has an annual commercial value of more than £2,600 overall.

The Mussel Card UNI can be used for unlimited travel on various ferries which navigate the Fal River, including the St Mawes and Place Ferries.

Students and university staff can also use their card for free travel on all Enterprise Boats services; the colourful fleet run between Truro, Falmouth and St Mawes via Trelissick Gardens and the King Harry Ferry and are a great way to explore the area.

Tim Light, Director of Fal River Cornwall, said: "The Mussel Card UNI is a cost-effective and sustainable way to travel to and from the university campuses. It also encourages students to get out and about and explore the fantastic scenery and attractions of the area where they have chosen to study; and they certainly won't be disappointed when they do!"

Encouraging students and staff to use public transport also reduces the traffic burden on busy roads in the area and allows for investment in bus, rail and ferry services.

Fal Mussel UNI Cards can be purchased for an entire academic year, and can be paid for in installments.
