SterlingOSB - the UK's most versatile board product
Norbord's SterlingOSB is used in a wide variety of applications
Probably the most versatile wood panel product in the UK, Norbord's SterlingOSB can be found on nearly every building site in a vast range of different applications.
SterlingOSB is produced in seven grades, ranging from the basic SterlingOSB2, used for packaging, hoarding and general temporary works, through to the premium quality SterlingOSB Buildboard made from moisture resistant OSB3, filled, sealed and primed ready for painting.
SterlingOSB is a genuinely sustainable product, made at Norbord's Inverness factory from timber grown in sustainably-managed local forests in a process powered by renewable heat energy from Norbord's own on-site biomass plant.
The boilers that produce this energy are fuelled with the bark, twigs and other waste residues left over from the manufacturing process.
Produced in a range of thicknesses from 9mm to 22m, SterlingOSB is one of the principal raw materials for many timber frame systems. Sterling Roofdek, a sanded, tongue-and-grooved is designed specifically for use as a decking board for flat roof construction.
It is also used, more commonly in Scotland, as a sarking board in pitched roof construction.
To ensure safety during the construction of large-scale timber frame building projects, Norbord offers SterlingOSB Fire Solutions which is specially treated to reduce the risk of fire spread during the construction of timber frame buildings.
SterlingOSB is increasingly finding favour in applications previously dominated by softwood ply. Whereas all ply sold in the UK has to be imported, SterlingOSB is a genuinely home-grown and sustainable product.
Furthermore, unlike plywood, there are no knots, cracks or splits in OSB and its strength is consistent literally across the board.
