Waverley Abbey House Opens Doors for Macmillan Cycletta

A stunning local landmark, Waverley Abbey House, is opening its doors to the public this weekend during Macmillan Cycletta Surrey to act as an extra special mid-route Feedstation during the UK’s leading women-only cycling event.

As well as being a beautiful mid-route spot for loved ones to meet the cyclists, Waverley Abbey House is offering a unique opportunity to enjoy tea and homemade cakes which will be on sale in the House’s Dining Room from 9.30am-12.30pm on Sunday for friends and family who want to support participants during the ride.

Macmillan Cycletta Surrey sets off from Loseley Park in Guildford this Sunday 6th September with hundreds of ladies pedalling through the Surrey countryside. The routes, which include 20km, 50km and 100km distances, pass through towns and villages such as Shackleford, Puttenham, Rushmoor and Farnham which is the nearest town to Waverley Abbey House.

Jackie Girling from Waverley Abbey House commented:

“We are really looking forward to being the official Feedstation for this year’s Macmillan Cycletta Surrey event and offering afternoon tea in our Dining Room to both the cyclists and their loved ones during the long ride. We hope that spectators will come along and enjoy our cream tea and homemade cakes and cyclists will be able to take a well-deserved break before getting back on their bikes and completing the route. Visitors are also welcome to take a stroll in the grounds or take a walk over to the ruins of the ancient Cistercian Monastery.”

Jackie continued:

“We have two Open Days at Waverley Abbey House next week where members of the public can go on a tour of the house. We will be open from 10am-4pm on Thursday 10th and Sunday 13th September and entry is free.”

This is the third year that Macmillan Cycletta returns to Surrey and this year organisers are expecting the event to be bigger than ever before.

Gillian Daly, Senior PR Manager at Macmillan Cycletta commented:

“Macmillan Cycletta Surrey is set to be a fantastic event with hundreds of ladies signing up and getting on their bikes this Sunday. The route is truly spectacular with many sights for the participants to soak up including a spectacular Feedstation at Waverley Abbey House which will be the perfect mid-route inspiration for those taking part.”

Macmillan Cycletta Surrey is open to women of all ages and abilities and, for those looking to make a family day out of it, for the younger cycling enthusiasts there is also a Scootathlon taking place on the same day.  The Scootathlon is a mini fun triathlon for children between the ages of 4 and 8 where they scoot, bike and run.

The Macmillan Cycletta website offers a host of information on training, race day advice and bike maintenance. There is also an active Twitter account (@cycletta) and www.facebook.com/cycletta resources to encourage participants to stay up-to-date with the latest news and developments. Macmillan Cycletta is part of the Human Race Women Only series which includes triathlon, swimming, running and cycling events.
