Businesses celebrate a shared ‘Yorkshireness'

Two local food enterprises are celebrating a ten-year partnership with their shared passion for ‘Yorkshireness'. Acaster Malbis based Yorvale, makers of ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt, has been supplying what is now known as the Walmgate Ale House and Bistro, formerly Meltons Too, for over a decade.

"What some people are calling ‘provenance' we just call ‘keeping it Yorkshire," says Walmgate Ale House and Bistro chef patron Michael Hjort: "If you look through our extensive menus you can see for yourself that we try and source everything we can locally. Our dishes are prepared using quality Yorkshire produce from within a few miles of the Bistro.

"We have fresh vegetables, meat, bread and cheeses delivered to the kitchen each day. Our real ales come from some six local breweries. And to finish off your feast our ice creams and sorbets come from our good friends, Ian and Lesley Buxton at Yorvale."

Lesley Buxton said: "We have built our business on our Yorkshire provenance and it gives us real pleasure to see local businesses like Michael's succeed."

Yorvale has been producing ice cream from its farm based business for 26 years. Its ice cream is also available nationwide via selected wholesalers and from independent retailers, visitor attractions and supermarkets throughout Yorkshire. Walmgate Ale House and Bistro is set in a 17th century listed building in the centre of York and boasts a long history and a few ghost stories!

The Ale House on the ground floor offers a range of Yorkshire ales, lagers, cider and wine whilst the second floor and loft space house the Bistro that serves homemade dishes using quality Yorkshire produce.
