St Andrews Aquarium Seal Pup Celebrates 1st Birthday

The latest addition to St Andrews Aquarium’s harbour seal family, Luna, celebrated his first birthday yesterday taking full advantage of an icy “fish” cake. The cake was made especially for him by members of the Aquarium team and Luna enjoyed tucking into his rare treat while also basking in some equally rare Scottish sunshine at the Fife visitor attraction.

Earlier this year the Luna travelled 1,286 miles across Europe by car to his new home in St Andrews after Kattegatcentret Aquarium in Grena, Denmark contacted the Fife-based aquarium to see if they would like to re-home the young pup.

Luna settled in quickly to his comfortable new surroundings overlooking the iconic West Sands on the St Andrews coast where he is getting to know his new aquarium buddies, Nelly and Togo.

John Mace, Manager at St Andrews Aquarium, commented:

“Luna loves his new home and is already a hit with our visitors. We thought it would be fun to mark his first birthday with something fishy and, to mark the even more rare occasion of sunshine this summer, something cold and refreshing! ”
