Scone Palace Cancels Family Fun Day After July Soaking
After a month of relentless rain fall and more wet weather
on the way, Scone Palace has reluctantly cancelled its Outlander Family Fun
Day. Due to take place on Sunday 9th August in the Palace’s grounds
and gardens, the events team are hoping for an Indian summer with plans to
reschedule the event for a new date in September.
July saw some of the heaviest rainfall ever recorded at
Scone Palace with 135mm falling on the historic visitor attraction in just one
month. Wellies and waterproofs were required for this year’s GWCT Scottish Game
Fair and Rewind festival and Macmillan Cycletta was also a wet event hosted at
the Palace. Not to be deterred, thousands of people didn’t let the rain stop
them enjoying an array of events taking place at the Crowning Place of Kings of
Scots in spite of the constant downpours.
While the Family Fun Day has been cancelled, there will
still be a range of fun events for visitors to enjoy at the Palace including a
Kids Summer Garden Club led by Scone Palace’s Head Gardener Brian Cunningham
which is to take place every Thursday throughout the school holidays.
Other activities include a week of fun days beginning on
Sunday 2nd August including Picts and Pictures with Fergus the Pict, Pirate Fun
with Captain Hook, Scottish Artistic Fun and Storytelling with Jacobite Jock,
Meet King Robert the Bruce and a Fossil Day.
Heather McArthur, Sales and Events Manager at Scone Palace,
commented:
“The poor weather hasn’t dampened the spirits of our many
visitors to Scone Palace through the summer months. Sadly, we are quite used to
these conditions in summer and, fortunately, we have still been able to continue
with many events regardless of the rain. We are looking forward to welcoming
lots of families to enjoy our range of fun activities taking place over the
next few weeks and we have definite plans to arrange the Family Fun Day for
later in the season when the weather is a bit more forgiving.”
