Dad saves daughter from a life with hyperhidrosis

When aesthetics industry expert and entrepreneur Ron Myers travelled to the US in search of a cure for his daughter Zoe's struggle with hyperhidrosis, little did he know what was in store for him!

Alongside 3% of the world's population, Zoe had suffered from hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating, since she was a teenager, and finally decided that enough was enough. So she turned to her dad for help.

They travelled to Santa Clara, California and visited Miramar Labs, a privately owned medical device company dedicated to launching the next generation energy modality to treat dermatalogic medical conditions.

Miramar Labs was founded almost ten years ago and 2011 saw them develop the FDA-approved miraDry for the treatment of excessive underarm sweat that significantly affects the quality of life for tens of millions of people.

The treatment uses proven electromagnetic energy to target the sweat glands so that they are eliminated, and underarm sweating is permanently reduced or even stopped.

Unlike hospital surgical treatments like a sympathectomy, which is a major operation where a lung is deflated in order to cut a nerve leading to the sweat glands to help stop stimulation of sweat, the miraDry treatment is a non-invasive process that can be completed in the clinic in around one hour, with a full recovery within 10 days.

Over 300 dermatology-led centres have, so far, treated over 40,000 patients worldwide, and the UK has medical experience in the use of this technology by leading dermatology-led medical centres in London including Professor Tony Chu at Hammersmith Hospital.

The clinically proven treatment is a safe, effective and permanent way of eliminating underarm sweat and odour and Ron has recently experienced it himself, showing that the ‘in-clinic' treatment works just as well on non-hyperhidrosis suffers who are simply ‘bothered' by sweat.

The treatment was so successful for Zoe that Ron decided to bring the product exclusively to the UK and set up miraDry UK.

miraDry is available right now as a cosmetic treatment at MediZen Aesthetic Clinic in Sutton Coldfield, where Zoe has recently become a qualified medical practitioner and now treats others personally with the miraDry procedure.

MediZen's Clinical Director, Dr David Eccleston, an internationally renowned lecturer and cosmetic physician, commented, "miraDry is one of the most exciting technologies I have seen over the past few years.

"It is a major breakthrough for people who are inconvenienced by the impact sweating has on their day-to-day life. It was actually created as a treatment for suffers of hyperhidrosis just like Zoe and has grown to be hugely successful in that field worldwide.

"But, now its availability as a cosmetic treatment means that it is easily accessible to everyone.

"As we head into the summer, hopefully we will see lots of great weather and unfortunately that often brings sweat and odour along with it. And of course, in this country, it isn't just the summer months when we feel the heat either. All year round, we are often crowded together in lots of different places like offices, shops, trains, bars and so on.

"Situations that make us sweat are unavoidable and sweating often happens at times when you want to look and feel your best. Stressful job interviews, first date nerves and hot, busy crowds can bring unwelcome sweat and body odour. That's why we all plaster ourselves with deodorants every day.

"But now miraDry offers a viable, affordable and easy permanent solution to this day to day problem. miraDry is suitable for everyone and uses electromagnetic energy delivered to the skin using a specially designed hand piece.

"The energy is carefully targeted to the area where sweat glands are found and eliminates them - and, as sweat glands never grow back, the treatment gives a permanent reduction in sweat. Our clients are already commenting on their newfound lifetime of freedom. The worries of visible sweat stains and the use of deodorants and antiperspirants that have ruined their favourite clothes are long gone."

Zoe says, "The day after the treatment, I just stopped sweating - it has been amazing! I feel more confident and I am a happier person. I would recommend miraDry to anyone who suffers from excessive underarm sweat."

Another satisfied miraDry patient, Vicky Eldridge, the well-respected editor of Aesthetics Magazine, who recently chose to have the treatment for professional reasons, commented, "I am absolutely amazed by the results and how instant they were. I have not worn any deodorant at all since having the procedure and have not had sweaty or smelly arm pits, despite the fact we had a heat wave the week after my procedure."
