Internationally acclaimed orchestra to debut two new pieces by Blackburn pupils
The Manchester Camerata, the internationally acclaimed symphony orchestra, is to give the world premiere of two new pieces written and composed by pupils from two Blackburn and Darwen schools.
Tasked with creating music on the theme of social media in the 21st century, 60 pupils from Meadowhead Junior School and 60 pupils from Our Lady and St John Secondary School have been working with seven Camerata musicians, a professional composer and a lyricist for the past two weeks.
The music will be performed for the first time by nine players from Camerata along with up to 120 children. The performances will be held at Our Lady and St John, on North Road, Shadsworth, starting at 2.15pm.
The project was made possible by the Blackburn with Darwen Music Hub, an organisation which brings together partner companies to deliver high quality music opportunities across Blackburn and Darwen.
The Music Hub runs tuition throughout the week, and works closely with schools and local communities to put on musical opportunities for children, young people and the people living in the community.
Music Hub lead, Sean Ashmore said: "We are delighted to have an orchestra of this calibre working with pupils from across Blackburn and Darwen.
"The Manchester Camerata has played a key role in the development of the Blackburn with Darwen Music Hub over the last two years and we are grateful for their input.
"We have all heard great things about the two new compositions and we can't wait for their debut."
The Manchester Camerata, based at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, has been described as one of Europe's best and is led by prize-winning principal conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy.
