Six figure investment for East Yorkshire Poultry Business
As summer progresses and the temperatures continue to rise, an East Yorkshire poultry business has invested in a new chiller plant.
Middleton-on-the-Wolds based T.Soanes and Sons has invested over £110,000 in new plant to improve the quality and shelf life of the 100,000 chickens that it sells per week.
General Manager, Nigel Upson explained the rationale for the project: "We are committed to improving the quality of our chicken and the new chiller plant is the latest in a series of investments that will help to consolidate our position as Yorkshire's premier poultry supplier."
The investment has funded a new machine in the primary processing area that will improve hygienic processing and an upgrade to the air chiller to improve air flow and provide additional refrigeration capacity.
In keeping with Soanes' local sourcing policy, the fridge plant was installed by AK Refrigeration of Kirkburn, near Driffiled and the panel works were undertaken by Composite Maintenance Systems of Hull.
In the last two years, T.Soanes and Son has invested over £¼ million in factory improvements and quality standards, with a further £100,000 scheduled during 2015 to improve presentational quality.
T.Soanes and Son is a family owned business which has been rearing and preparing poultry for over 65 years. It rears over 5 million birds per year on its Yorkshire Wolds farms and sells its chicken to butchers and independent retailers in Yorkshire and to wholesalers nationwide. It also supplies a range of game in season to wholesale and retail customers.
