Pride & Joy transforms stylish family apartment for new arrival!

Pictured is Steph and Dan's London flat

Business manager Steph McCombes and fiancé Dan Hurst, who is an editor, live in London's iconic Strata Tower and chose Pride & Joy paints to reinvent the space in their new home.

What appealed to you most about this property?

It's a two-bedroom flat with great views over the city. You can see the London Eye from the window, for example. It's a modest size but, as a new build, it's practical and has lots of streamlined space that suits life in the city.

What did it look like before you decorated?

We have an open-plan kitchen and living room and it was all painted white with no character at all. As it has cream carpet and black kitchen floor tiles, lots of windows and glass and hard edges, it seemed too stark and cold.

What were you trying to achieve?

When we were decorating, I was heavily pregnant with our son Oscar and we wanted to create somewhere that felt comfortable and homely. When you live in a new-build, things can seem quite clinical but we wanted a space that looked stylish and welcoming and a calming backdrop for Oscar and his baby toys! We would describe our style as casual, classic and eclectic and we wanted a space that could accommodate all our belongings - such as cookbooks and art works - effortlessly.

Why did you choose a paint palette from Pride & Joy to furnish your home?

We used colour to create different living zones in the open-plan space kitchen/living room. So, we went for a sophisticated pale green hue in the living area and left the kitchen white. The green helps to create a really calming space which gives the room balance and is relaxing after a long day in the city.

How well do you think it complements the rest of your living room?

Our furnishings are quite neutral, with a cream sofa and lots of books and pictures on the wall. The green hue contrasts well with the black and white carpet and glass table and creates a subtle yet stylish backdrop.

Why did you choose Pride & Joy and what do you like most about the range?

We also used stylish grey Pride & Joy paint in the bedroom, which I painted myself when I was 38 weeks pregnant even though Dan tried to stop me! The paint is odourless and is M1 classified, which reassured me that it was okay to sleep in the freshly painted room and bring our newborn home just one week later! It now feels like a grown-up space, even though we have a young child.

What do you think about the end results?

I love the matt finish of the paint and the way it has helped to stamp our mark on the property and really make it feel like home. It's nice to be able to choose things yourself rather than get an interior designer in to help.

Did your experience of Pride & Joy meet your expectations?

The company has such a wide range of paints to choose from we felt spoilt for choice. They were very helpful and delivered tester pots and the paint straight to our home. I love the convenience of online ordering too.

Would you recommend Pride & Joy to your friends?
