Yorkshire and Humber Commissioning Support wins national NHS England project.
Yorkshire and Humber Commissioning Support (YHCS) has been appointed by NHS England to manage and coordinate the second wave of the Prime Minister's Challenge Fund process. Applications opened on 29 October for GPs to bid for a share of £100m to improve and extend access to their services and close on 16 January 2015.
More than seven million patients across England are set to benefit from the first wave of20 pilot schemes, covering 1,100 GP practices, with new services and increased access. The current projects are transforming the delivery of primary care services across England, with longer and more flexible opening hours. A wide variety of ideas is now being trialled including 8am-8pm working, better use of telecare and health apps, access to appointments through e-mail and Skype, and greater flexibility with face-to-face access.
YHCS Associate Director of Primary Care and Programme Lead Catherine Dymond said:
"As the success of first wave pilot schemes becomes more widely understood, we expect that applications for funding from the second tranche of monies released through Prime Minister's Challenge Fund are likely to increase. It is important that bids are robust, with practical outcomes that will make a real difference for patients."
