An Elvis sandwich, toilets made from beer kegs and a "Beast Burger" Man V Food Challenge-A taste of the Deep South hits Hereford
This week sees the launch of new concept restaurant,BBQs & Brews, on Commercial Road, Hereford. The transformed Hop Pole pub will be offering a taste of the American Deep South, Herefordshire style, when it opens its doors at lunchtime on the 26th September. The new restaurant is championing Herefordshire food and drink producers including Neil Powell butchers, Wye Valley Brewery, Peter Cook's bread and Rowlestone Court Farm.
BBQs & Brews will be throwing down theMan V Foodgauntlet to Herefordshire diners with a selection of Challenge Dishes:
The Mountain - A volume food challenge consisting of the Beast Burger, 4 portions of fries, 2 portions of macaroni cheese, a garlic bread tower, a corn on the cob and washed down with 2 pints of homemade milkshake.
The Super Bowl - A sweet challenge where 4 of our homemade Belgian waffles are topped with chocolate brownies, ice cream and marshmallows.
The Ring of Fire - a chili challenge of fiery chicken wings devised by BBQs &Brews fire-loving Mexican chef.
Diners can also look forward to some unique tastes including theElvis Sandwich, loved by The King himself, consisting of; smoked bacon, peanut butter, banana and maple syrup!
Director, Marc Craddock, wanted to create an easygoing, relaxed interior that now includes an open theatre kitchen, jean clad booths, refectory style dining area and a sports bar.
Indeed much of the interior and exterior has been reclaimed from salvaged Herefordshire products. Local craftsman Tom Robbins from The Mud Pie Furniture Co., was commissioned to create a custom feel for the restaurant, resulting in; reclaimed Herefordshire timber tables, corrugated iron roofing (salvaged from old farm buildings) for exterior dining pods, and condiment holders made from old tin cans (the contents of which went to a local food bank). The most unusual element though is the mens' urinals, which are made from recycled beer kegs. His piece de resistance is a group of meat cleavers embedded in Herefordshire wood above the entrance door.
BBQs &Brews opens its doors at 12pm on Friday 26th September. Reservations can be made Mon-Thurs 01432 355674.
