Dr Katerina Steventon invited to speak at inaugural hair symposium
Yorkshire skincare consultant and facial massage therapist Dr Katerina Steventon has been invited to address delegates at the inauguralUntangling the Links between the Brain and Hairsymposium that takes place next month.
Dr Katerina Steventon has been invited to address an audience of academics and interested parties to give aclinician's perspective of scalp touch and its impact on skin health at the one-day conference in London on 6thMay.
Dr Steventon is looking forward to sharing her knowledge of touch with the audience: "My talk ventures into new territory, beyond the face, exploring physiology and psychology of scalp touch. Why does it feel so good? What have we lost as grooming rituals have vanished from everyday life?
"Beyond symbolism, scalp massage offers physiological benefits too—stimulating circulation, distributing sebum to enhance shine and youthfulness and reinforcing our relationship with our hair as an extension of self.
"In reconnecting with this ritual, we don't just improve scalp and hair health, we revive a form of nonverbal communication rooted in self-care and well-being."
The conference is organised by academics Dr Gill Westgate and Dr Claire Higgins. It takes place between 9.30 am and 4 pm on 6th May at the Sir Michael Uren Hub, White City Campus, Imperial College London. It is free to attend, but delegates must register online athttps://bit.ly/HairSymposium.
