Vaughan Lindsay Appointed Chair of Oversight Trust
Vaughan Lindsay has been named the new Chair of theOversight Trust- Assets for the Common Good bringing a wealth of experience across the social, commercial, and impact investing sectors.
The Trust plays a key role in overseeing the governance of the four organisations in England that have to date received funding allocated under the Dormant Assets Scheme. These organisations are: Better Society Capital, Access - the Foundation for Social Investment, Fair4All Finance, and Youth Futures Foundation.
Vaughan Lindsay takes over from Sir Stuart Etherington who has chaired the organisation since 2020.
Vaughan has decades of leadership experience in the charity sector, impact investing and with purpose driven businesses. This includes his roles as Chair of New Philanthropy Capital, a leading think tank for the sector; as CEO of Dartington Hall Trust, one of the largest Social Enterprises in the UK focused on stimulating new initiatives in arts, sustainability and social justice; and as co-founder of Zamo Capital, which supports impact funds in the UK.
On his appointment, Vaughan Lindsay expressed his enthusiasm for the role: "The Oversight Trust plays a vital role in ensuring that dormant assets are used effectively to support social change. I look forward to working with the Board to drive real impact and support the continued success of the four operating companies."
Outgoing Chair Sir Stuart Etherington welcomed the appointment, commenting: "I'm delighted that Vaughan Lindsay is taking over as Chair of the Oversight Trust. He brings a wealth of relevant experience to this unique and crucial role. I wish him and the Board the very best as I retire after five years"

Its aim is to ensure that they remain true to their objectives. In particular, the Oversight Trust is required to:
- ensure that the OpCos are well governed
- ensure that their strategic plans are in accordance with their objects
- review achievement of social impact
- review transparency of financial and impact reporting
- ensure that any proposed changes to their objects are appropriate; and
- provide guidance and advice to the Operating Companies, if appropriate and practicable, or as requested.
