Conagri salutes Captain Tractors

Conagri has teamed up with Captain Tractors to launch compact tractors in the UK.

Agricultural and construction equipment dealer group Conagri has partnered with Captain Tractors, global pioneers of the compact tractor, to officially launch the brand in the UK.

The Devon-based group is now the sole UK distributor of the high-end compact tractors and attachments for a wide range of agricultural uses, including land preparation, sowing and crop care, harvesting and ancillary work.

As such, Conagri already has Terry Harrison Machinery in South Wales and AMIA in the South West as the first two dealers and is also actively looking to recruit others in East and West Scotland, Cumbria, the North West and North East, North Wales, West Midlands, East Midlands, The Midlands, South East and South (Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire).

To this end, Conagri will be showcasing the Captain Tractors brand at more than a dozen county, agricultural and local shows throughout the UK, including Royal Highland, Royal Welsh, Devon County, Royal Bath and West, and Royal Cornwall.

The Captain Tractors brand, whose aerospace division is authorised by the CAA to rebuild aircraft and aero engines, comprises five series ranging from 15 to 28 HP and weighing between 780kg and 945kg to minimise fuel consumption. Common features include a first gear which is intentionally slow at 1.43 km/h to enable unparalleled soil processing.

Conagri is selling the 25HP 263 (manual and automatic) from its site in Crediton and 13 have already sold.

Conagri business development manager Andrew Venton said: "Captain Tractors invented the high-end compact tractor as we know it so when we were offered the opportunity to be the brand's sole UK distributor we jumped at it.

"The management expertise and pedigree of Captain Tractors meant there was nothing more to consider other than how many shall we order. Conagri are early adaptors, who like Captain, prefer to lead and have others follow, so we were made for each other!"

Terry Harrison Machinery have already sold two of the nine Captain Tractors 223 and 263 machines they had in stock in Pembrokeshire - one to a small private contractor and one to the owners of a smallholding. Some of the remaining ones are fitted with Captain Tractors' loaders.

It is not the first time they have been a dealer for an Indian brand but Captain Tractors conveniently replaced the predecessor when the supply chain dried up.

Owner Terry Harrison said: "I knew quite a bit about Captain Tractors before we were offered the opportunity to become a dealer. They are good quality machines and their price is obviously very attractive. It is early season yet but the signs so far are very good."
