Kitchen design trends are evolving in exciting ways and who better to shed light on these trends than the renowned designer and TV personality, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen?
After working withCaplein his latest collaboration, Laurence shares his insights on the future of kitchen design, his favourite Caple products, and what makes Caple stand out in the crowded landscape of interior design.
Kitchen design trends
Laurence predicts that the dominant kitchen design trends will focus on combining traditional elements with modern functionality. He emphasises the importance of creating spaces that are not just utilitarian but also serve as the heart of the home.
"I've got super bored of the Germanic orthodoxy in kitchen appliance design," he says. "I hate kitchens that look like machines for cooking in rather than easy-going heart-of-the-home spaces."
Standout colours
When it comes to colour trends, Laurence reveals that green remains a standout hue. "The colour for me at the moment is GREEN," he declares. "It's such a dominant, desired hue in most people's wardrobes and can go from sophisticated olive to mouthwatering apple depending on how you feel." This versatility allows green to adapt to various moods and settings, making it a perfect choice for contemporary kitchens.
Influences in designing a space
Laurence describes himself as a "Diagnostic Designer" rather than a "Conceptual Creator." He draws inspiration from the existing elements of a space and its intended emotional impact. "Physiology is also super important, so I always ask the question ‘How do you want to feel in this space'," he explains. His design approach also respects historical context, blending tradition with modernity. And when all else fails, he humorously admits to relying on gin for inspiration.
Why choose Caple?
Laurence's decision to collaborate with Caple was influenced by location and a departure from the norm in kitchen appliance design. "With me in the Cotswolds and Caple in Bristol, we are neighbours," he says, "And I love the elegant and sleek designs, which stand out in a market often dominated by more clinical, machine-like aesthetics.
Caple's unique appeal
From an interior design perspective, Caple's products offer a unique blend of style and functionality. "As pieces of kitchen engineering, I really enjoy how sleek and really elegant Caple pieces are," Laurence notes. "This blend of elegance and practicality is what makes Caple products particularly appealing to discerning homeowners."
His most-used Caple product
Laurence anticipates that the double Belfast sink will see the most use. "I love the double Belfast sink which, for me, indulges my love for design that fuses tradition with modernity and simplicity with solidity," he shares. As the chief washer-up in his household, he values the sink's practicality and timeless design.
A must-have Caple product
If he had to recommend one Caple product for everyone, it would be the induction hob. "I think the world should fall in love with Caple induction hobs," Laurence asserts. He values kitchen safety and energy efficiency, both of which are hallmarks of induction cooking. Moreover, the sleek design of the hobs contributes to the overall kitchen aesthetic, making them a stylish, practical choice.
Working with Caple
Laurence has high praise for Caple's professionalism and creativity during their collaboration. "Caple were amazing to work with. So knowledgeable, flexible, and creative when I needed them to be. Plus of course fast," he says. The availability of stock items also made a significant difference, especially in comparison to the long lead times often associated with German suppliers.
Favourite meal to cook
Although he claims not to be a cook, Laurence enjoys preparing a simple Mediterranean-inspired roast chicken and salad feast for his family. "Jackie's very much the Chef de Cuisine but I love putting together a simple Mediterranean-inspired roast chicken and salad feast for the family," he shares. With ten family members, including grandchildren, these meals are a beloved tradition enjoyed in the warmth of their Caple kitchen.
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen's collaboration with Caple showcases the perfect blend of elegance, tradition, and modern functionality in kitchen design. His insights offer a glimpse into the trends and inspirations that will define 2024, while his endorsement of Caple highlights the brand's commitment to quality, style, and innovation. Whether it's the standout green hues, the sleek induction hobs, or the timeless double Belfast sink, Caple products are sure to enhance any kitchen space.
