Hubbard Systems says nearly all Scotsman ice makers are already F-Gas compliant

Hubbard Systems has confirmed that virtually the whole range of Scotsman ice machines and accessories are already fully F-Gas compliant, and that it has good stock levels of all the most popular Scotsman models. 

The announcement follows concern in the media about the availability of ice makers, due to the F-Gas regulations which came into force at the start of 2025.  “Scotsman were ahead of the curve when it came to ensuring compliance with the EU’s F-Gas regulations,” says David Rees, marketing manager at Hubbard Systems.  “They launched their EcoX range, which uses only natural refrigerants, back in 2018.  Since then they have continued developing the products and can now offer compliant versions of just about every model and variant.” 

One key problem area for all ice maker manufacturers has been with larger, modular systems making dice and supercube ice, where the technology to replace the gas with natural refrigerants is still in development.  But even here, in most cases Hubbard Systems is able to offer ‘workarounds’.  Rees says, “For example, for operators looking for the very largest modular packages, we can offer remote condenser systems.”  

Even so, Rees confirms that Scotsman are working hard to close any gaps in its range, and it should be able to offer compliancy across the board very soon.  “It’s only in a few specialist areas that there are any issues,” he says.  “For the vast majority of operators and applications, Scotsman already has an F-Gas compliant model.”

With the recent amendment to the regulations giving a temporary extension to certain types of refrigeration issued in late December 2024, Scotsman will still produce machines over 200kg, but they are actively working toward a green solution to comply with the revised deadline of June 2026.
