Festive Generosity Remains Strong: 92% of Brits Plan to Match or Increase Charitable Giving This Christmas
A recent survey conducted by charity insurance specialists WRS Insurance Brokers reveals that the festive spirit of giving continues to be strong across the UK despite ongoing cost of living challenges, with 79% of respondents planning to maintain their charitable contributions this Christmas, and 13% pledging to give even more. In contrast, only 6% anticipate reducing their donations.
The survey highlights not only the resilience of UK generosity, but also a shift towards supporting causes closer to home, with over 50% of respondents stating that they're most likely to support community charities this festive season.
Gungor Baykan, Head of Broking and Operations at WRS Insurance Brokers said: "Despite ongoing financial pressures in the UK, this research shows that people's generosity and commitment to giving at this time of year remains strong. It's inspiring to see so many people prioritising community, family, and giving, even in challenging times. The willingness to contribute both financially and through acts of service speaks volumes about the compassion of our communities."
Key survey findings:
- Over a quarter (27%) of respondents are more likely to donate during the festive season than at any other time of year, while 67% say their giving habits remain consistent year-round
- 13% intend to increase their contributions this year, while 79% will donate at similar levels to last Christmas. Only 6% plan to reduce their giving, and just 2% will not contribute at all.
- Community-focused charities (53%), organisations supporting children and young people (51%), and animal welfare groups (43%) topped the list of preferred causes
- Beyond monetary donations, Brits are stepping up in other ways:
- 74% plan to donate items.
- 52% intend to volunteer their time.
- 29% will share donation opportunities on social media.
