North East duo and The Voice winners 2023 Hunni (formerly known as Jen and Liv) will headline as Gateshead town centre marks its official countdown to Christmas and switches on its Christmas Lights this week.
Joining Hunni will be a host of local acts and performers for this year’s annual event, which will be held at the shopping and leisure complex Trinity Square.
The two-and-a-half-hour panto-themed programme is hosted by Lewis Denny (Dame Dotty) and Charlie Richmond (Muddles) from The Tyne Theatre and Opera House. 11-year-old Helena Lily, winner of Trinity’s Got Talent 2024 will perform along with Taylor Swift tribute act ‘Enchanted with Taylor’ and panto stars from The Tyne Theatre and Opera House’s Snow White production (Twist and Pulse, Regan Gascoigne and Grace Davison). The event will welcome other special guests, including the Deputy Mayor of Gateshead, Cllr Freda Geddes, Santa and a few panto princesses and baddies!
The Trinity Square Christmas Light Switch On is free to attend, and parking in the Tesco car park will be free from 3pm until 8 pm on the day.
Money raised on the night through raffle tickets and merchandise sales will go to Trinity Square’s nominated charity, Tiny Lives. During the event, the centre will announce that it will celebrate reaching the £28k fundraising mark for Tiny Lives, which supports the Special Care Baby Unit at the RVI in Newcastle.
