A book with a picture of a person walking on a pathDescription automatically generated[United Kingdom, 10thOctober 2024] Charles and Tina Parker, devoted parents and passionate advocates for autism awareness, are proud to announce the release of their latest book, Tell It As It Is: My New Home, the third instalment in their impactful series. This compelling narrative chronicles their journey to secure supported living for their son, Christopher, who is 25 years old and diagnosed with severe autism.

In this powerful new book, the Parkers share the harrowing experiences they faced while navigating the complexities of residential care, where Christopher endured abuse and neglect. It took them two years of relentless advocacy to find a safe and nurturing environment for their son, ultimately leading to his newfound freedom and independence.

The Parkers will be the keynote speakers at the upcoming Loddon Training Conference, held at the Hampshire Court Hotel in Basingstoke on 16th to 17th October. They will share Christopher's inspiring story with professionals, educators, parents, families, and caregivers, emphasising the importance of raising expectations for adults with autism.

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS) in 2021, a staggering 75% of autistic adults live with their parents, compared to just 16% of disabled individuals overall. This statistic underscores the significance of the Parkers' research and advocacy efforts in securing the right care providers, enabling Christopher to live (almost) independently with supported living.

With the support of Kind Tailored Care, a Welsh-based company and proud sponsor of the Tell It As It Is series, Christopher has been able to thrive in a supportive environment, despite living outside of Wales. His newfound freedom has allowed him to learn essential life skills such as cooking and cleaning, while also enjoying activities in the local Southampton community, including swimming, dining at McDonald's, and visiting his beloved giraffes at Marwell Zoo.

Charles and Tina express their heartfelt aspirations for Christopher, stating, "It has always been our dream for Christopher to have a say in what he wants, what he does, what he wears, and what he eats. But the most important decision we wanted his opinion on was where he would live."

In their journey, the Parkers offer hope and encouragement to other families facing similar challenges. "If you are in a similar place to us, searching for that one rainbow that will be special amidst the many storms you will encounter, just keep going," they advise.

Tell It As It Is: My New Home is not just a book; it is a beacon of hope for families navigating the complexities of autism. Join Charles and Tina Parker in their mission to inspire and empower others to raise expectations and advocate for the rights of individuals with autism.
